StarWitness SOUND BITE is the latest product developed by Signalscape's audio engineers. SOUND BITE packages the processing power of the StarWitness Audio toolkit into an easy-to-use media player. With a single click, a preconfigured processing graph is loaded and applied to your audio. Each processing graph, or "filter," is developed to perform a specific noise-reduction operation.

 

StarWitness SOUND BITE allows you to:

 

  • Open and play audio files.
  • View the audio stream as either a time-domain waveform or a spectrogram.
  • Apply one or more filters to the input stream and listen to the processed output.
  • Selectively apply one or more filters to only a portion of the audio stream.
  • Save processed output to file.
  • View property pages and fine-tune each filter.
  • Control adaptive filter coefficients using freeze and reset operations.
  • Modify playback rate, subject to a constant-pitch algorithm.
  • Receive warnings if non-optimal filter order is chosen.
  • Store and retrieve filter "profiles" containing property and coefficient values
  • Capture audio from sound card

 

How Does It Work?

 

StarWitness Sound Bite is a feature-enhanced audio application that allows you to view and listen to recorded audio and to process the audio with specific enhancement filters. In addition, you may save the processed audio to disk.

 

After opening an audio file, the waveform display and spectograph provide a visual representation of the file's data stream. The standard multimedia buttons like Play, Stop, Repeat, and Pause are readily available at the bottom of the toolbar.

 

 

With a file opened, you can simply clean it up by adding sequential filters like this one, for eliminating the steady humming noise of a fan:

 

 

You can limit a filter to a particular region of the input signal as well. By simply clicking View -> Regions from the toolbar, you can adjust how long and at what point in time the filter takes effect.

 

 

When you get your signal almost perfect, you can do some fine-tuning by selecting the Filter Properties of each filter.

 

With a little practice, you will be able to bring your original audio file to crystal clarity.
